Google anuncia la fi del Google Wave
El projecte Google Wave, el sistema que integrava un nou sistema de correu electrònic, xarxa social i missatgeria, sembla que té les hores comptades. Google ha anunciat que deixarà d’invertir en el projecte. Els usuaris podran continuar utilitzant el Google Wave fins a finals d’any. Què passarà després? No se sap. El projecte Google Wave és un projecte lliure, qualsevol pot agafar-ne el codi, instal·lar-lo en un altre servidor i continuar-lo, però si ningú s’atreveix a fer-ho quedarà orfe i abandonat.
But despite these wins, and numerous loyal fans, Wave has not seen the
user adoption we would have liked. We don’t plan to continue developing
Wave as a standalone product, but we will maintain the site at least
through the end of the year and extend the technology for use in other
Google projects. The central parts of the code, as well as the protocols
that have driven many of Wave’s innovations, like drag-and-drop and
character-by-character live typing, are already available as open
source, so customers and partners can continue the innovation we began.
In addition, we will work on tools so that users can easily “liberate”
their content from Wave.
Tot i que no ho semblava es veu que el projecte Wave va captivar l’atenció d’empreses i particulars que ara s’han organitzat per demanar a Google que canviï de decisió i han creat el web www.savegooglewave.com.
Al diari el Pais hi ha una article dedicat a una empresa que havia decidit utilitzar Wave per organitzar-se i que ara no sap què fer. A partir d’aquest article descobreixo que existeixen dos projectes semblants al Wave que desconeixia:
- Mozilla Raindrop: un projecte lliure amb el segell de Mozilla amb uns objectius iguals al del Wave.
- Shareflow: un projecte privat amb un servei gratuït i un altre de pagament que pretén ser una alternativa a Wave.
